1 Get On The Water -
Charleston is surrounded by water, which provides one of the best and most fun ways to experience this
coastal city. There are multitudes of harbor tours, fishing charters, kayak and water sport companies that
can accomodate your family or larger group.
2 Go To The Beach -
Of course the beach is a great activity that all kids enjoy. There are three main beaches in the Charleston
area: Folly, Isle of Palms and Sullivan's Island. We recommend the Isle of Palms and Folly Beach because
they offer better parking options, public restrooms, dining and shops.
3 Take a Tour -
Our "Fun & Recreation" section lists multitudes of family-friendly tours and destinations. Some favorites
include Patriots Point, the South Carolina Aquarium and ghost tours if the kids are old enough.
4 Family Parks -
There are three water parks in the area. The largest is Whirlin' Waters at Wannamaker Park in North
Charleston, Mount Pleasant is home to Splash Island, while Splash Zone is in James Island. Call (843)
795-4386 for more information and directions. In addition, Blackbeard's Cove in Mount Pleasant offers
putt-putt, go-carts, arcade games and more. Call (843) 971-1223 for information.
5 The Children's Museum -
Located on Ann Street in downtown Charleston, this is the area's first hands-on learning environment
designed for children ages three months to 12 years. There are eight interactive exhibits ranging from a
full-scale shrimp boat to an area just for infants and toddlers. Call (843) 853-8962 for more information.
